Samaaria Eesti Misjon - in Estonia

The Samaria-mission in Estonia is a non-profit charitable association

The purpose of the association is to help drug addicts and their families towards a sober life on a christian basis. It implies both moral and material support through christian social work and evangelism in Estonia and other countries.

The Samaria-mission came to Estonia through the association in Finland. On the 21st of August 1991 the Samaria Baltikum Fond (its name of that time) was founded by, among others, pastor Runar Nylund and managing director Krister Lindberg.

The Samaria-mission in Estonia is a juridical person with a budget of its own. It is directed by its council and by the management the council has elected. The management is in the town of Hapsal. The mission of Samaria is to use collected means in order to build christian rehabilitation centres, to support the socially weak and to develop a co-operation with churches, congregations and private persons.

Samaria has got four rehabilitation centres in Estonia; one in the town of Pärnu, two outside Hapsal in a village called Üsse and one on the island Hiiumaa. These centres are meant for men who are not able to get rid of their drug abuse themselves, but believe in God's delivering power. It is possible to live in the centre day and night. Bible studies are a part of the therapy.

Samaria has opened several flea markets where clothes, shoes, furniture etc. are sold to cover the maintenance costs of the rehabilitation centres. Today there are 10 Samaria-shops: 4 in Hapsal, 1 in Hiiumaa, 1 in Lihula, and 4 in Pärnu. The shops get along thanks to the transports from the Nordic countries, especially from Finland. Many organizations, and also private persons have supported Samaria's work since the start in 1991. Samaria itself has been able to support old people, large families, handicapped people, old people's homes, orphanages and other half-way houses.
